HORTEN will bring flying wings to general aviation
HORTEN will bring
flying wings
to general aviation
HORTEN Aircraft GmbH is entirely dedicated to aircraft without a classic fuselage and tail unit – the so-called flying wings.
Decades of experience, numerous predecessor models and 3 years of development time went into the HORTEN HX-2 demonstrator.
The knowledge gained with this demonstrator forms the basis for the series development of a flying wing aircraft for general aviation, which HORTEN is currently preparing.
The HORTEN HX-2 as a milestone
After three years of development and testing at Eisenach-Kindel airfield (EDGE), HORTEN proudly presented its demonstrator in 2019: the HORTEN HX-2 flew to Friedrichshafen for the trade show AERO to be unveiled to the public.
The HX-2 is an attractive, ultra-modern, two-seater light aircraft without a fuselage. Due to its low aerodynamic drag, a flying wing flies more efficiently than a comparable aircraft with a fuselage. At comparable flight speeds, it can achieve greater range or higher payloads.
The versatile design of the airframe and the additional space available in the wing-fuselage transition are also ideal for integrating new propulsion technologies in the future. However, HORTEN Aircraft's current focus is on preparing our first product for general aviation.
Incidentally, our company name honors the visionary aircraft designer Dr.-Ing. Reimar Horten (1915-1994). He is considered a pioneer in the field of flying wing aircraft and made significant contributions to the development of the predecessors of the HORTEN HX-2, the prototypes PUL-9 and PUL-10.
